Discovery costs three times as much
When a new customer finds you through Gumroad's Discover, the fee is 30% per transaction. Direct sales are 10% plus 50¢. Reaching strangers is the expensive part of the deal, and the amount scales with each order.

Gumroad charges per sale and has no monthly fee. Rovalty charges a flat plan and no commission, and brands pay creators per 1,000 verified views.

Rovalty is right when you want creators promoting your product for a known cost per view. Gumroad is the better pick if you need somewhere to sell digital products with no monthly fee, because Rovalty has no checkout, files or storefront. Most sellers wanting both would keep Gumroad and add campaigns.
Our pick, for brands paying creators per view. Written by Rovalty and last checked .Gumroad is a place to sell digital products, charging per transaction and nothing monthly. It's simple and it does that job well. A founder selling there can run Rovalty campaigns to bring in viewers. A creator earning on Gumroad can join a brand's view campaign, with their products staying put.
When a new customer finds you through Gumroad's Discover, the fee is 30% per transaction. Direct sales are 10% plus 50¢. Reaching strangers is the expensive part of the deal, and the amount scales with each order.
The 10% rate applies to sales through your profile or direct links, so you're already bringing the traffic. Gumroad's fee doesn't buy you any creator posting about the product.
Gumroad's pricing page charges per transaction, and it lists nothing based on views. That's fair for a store. It also means it can't tell you what a creator's video reached or set a price on that reach.
Where Discover takes a share of each sale, a Rovalty campaign sets a rate per 1,000 views, a per-video cap and a total budget. You decide the most you'll spend before any video goes live.
Rovalty costs $0, $29, $79 or $199 a month by tracked views. It takes no commission and never holds money. You pay creators yourself from a weekly statement, which is a job you need to plan for.
Rovalty has no checkout, file delivery or storefront, and no sales tracking. It can't sell your ebook or template. It only gets more people watching videos that mention it.

Gumroad wins if you need to sell something today. Rovalty only matters once you have something worth promoting and want creators doing it.

Rovalty's plan is set by tracked views, not sales. Growth is shown as an example.
Source: This compares Gumroad's 10% on direct sales, leaving out its 50¢ per sale, with a flat Rovalty plan. It isn't like for like, since Gumroad's fee pays for selling and a Rovalty plan pays for view tracking.
Some of these are stores with their own fee models. Others have nothing to do with selling and pay creators for promotion.

Fourthwall gives creators a shop, fulfilled merch, digital goods and memberships. It takes a cut on digital and membership sales, and its help page says it has no feature for paying people who promote your shop.
Stan gives creators a simple store for courses, bookings and digital products, and it takes no cut of sales. It still charges a monthly plan, and its affiliates are paid on sales rather than views.
Beacons bundles a link in bio, store, email and a media kit that creators use to pitch brands. Lower plans take 9% of sales, and the creator pages we read describe deals priced per piece, not pay per view.
Lemon Squeezy handles checkout, subscriptions and sales tax for software and digital products, and its team is now also building Stripe Managed Payments. It takes 5% plus 50¢ per sale, and its affiliate tool pays on sales rather than views.
Swell Rewards, now Yotpo Loyalty, lets ecommerce brands reward customers with points, referrals and VIP tiers. It's built for repeat purchases, so it has no view-based pay for creators.
Kajabi combines courses, communities, websites and email in one platform and says it takes no revenue share. Plans start at $179 a month, and its affiliates, on Growth and up, earn on sales rather than views.
Teachable hosts courses, coaching and digital products, with unlimited students on its main plans. Starter still takes 7.5% of sales, and its affiliates on higher plans earn a share of revenue rather than pay for views.
Patreon gives creators memberships, digital sales and community tools, paid for by their own fans. It takes a 10% platform fee from new creators, and it doesn't offer brand campaigns paid on views.
Ko-fi lets fans tip creators and buy shop items, commissions and memberships, with no monthly cost on its free option. It still takes 5% on non-tip sales without Gold, and it offers no brand pay based on views.
Rovalty imports nothing and needs nothing moved. Your products, customers and files stay on Gumroad, where they keep selling as they do now.
Choose a rate per 1,000 views, minimum views, a per-video cap and a budget. Add a required name, mention or link so each video ties back to the campaign.
Share your free yourbrand.rovalty.com page. Creators sign in with Google, link accounts and submit videos. You pay them directly from the weekly statement, since Rovalty doesn't send money.
Stay on Gumroad if you need a simple way to sell digital products and don't want a monthly bill. Paying only on sales is a real advantage when you're starting out, and Rovalty has no checkout. Add Rovalty only when you're ready to pay creators for views, or want to earn that way.
